Qualification - How Can I Find Out If I Am Eligible For Resettlement in the United States?
The U.S. Refugee Program has special rules for people living in South Africa. You can only be considered if you meet all these requirements:
-
Be a South African citizen.
-
Live in South Africa right now.
-
Be of Afrikaner background OR belong to a minority racial group.
-
You must be 18 years old or older. If you are younger, you must travel with a parent.
-
You must be able to explain how you have been hurt in the past, or why you are afraid of being hurt in the future based on your race, religion, nationality, membership in a group, or political beliefs. For example, this could mean being excluded from jobs or education, or facing threats.
The application process and information are free. You should be careful of anyone who asks you for money to help you apply, as it is likely a scam.
