How To Prepare for the Application

It is important to be as prepared as possible before you start the online application form; this help you to be prepared for the pre-screening interviews.

Having your information ready can help you avoid rushing, reduce mistakes, and make the process smoother and faster.

Colonel Chris Wyatt, who has decades of experience in this field, has kindly put together a document listing the types of information that may be requested by USCIS.

Any additional information can usually be requested later by the interviewing agent or case officer.

Even if you are still waiting for legal documents from DHA, or are still in the process of applying for them, it is highly recommended that you prepare your information and continue with your application.

It is also strongly recommended that you complete your application on a computer rather than on a phone.

Before You Start Your Application

Try to have the following ready before you begin:

  1. A stable internet connection or enough mobile data to complete the form without interruptions
  2. A quiet place where you can focus without distractions
  3. A computer or laptop if possible
  4. Your phone nearby in case you need verification codes or account access
  5. A pen and notepad for notes and reminders
  6. Install a screenshots extension in your browser to make screenshots and save a copy of each completed page
  7. Scanned, clear, clean and neat copies of your documents saved in PDF format
  8. A folder on your computer where all your documents are organised and easy to find

While Completing the Form

  1. Save your work as you go along. The system allows you to save each page and return later.
  2. Use a screenshot browser extension (mentioned above) so you can keep screenshots of each completed page for your records.
  3. Write down any missing information or follow-up items you may need later.

The Types of Information You may be Expected to Provide Include:

  1. Identity information
  2. Previous and current addresses
  3. Social media accounts
  4. Marital status
  5. Family details
  6. Criminal history
  7. Military history
  8. Your persecution statement
  9. Other supporting information

Before your interviews, it is a good idea to read through the screenshots of your application again so that the information is fresh in your mind.

Do not panic if you submit your application and later realise you forgot something or made a mistake. Corrections can normally be discussed during the interview process.

Create your persecution statement in advance so that you can copy and paste it into the online application form when you get to that section.  If you are unsure how to prepare, Professor G, and immigration attorney, has valuable insights to share on his YouTube channel. We will link one of his video's below for you.

Do not rely on AI to write your persecution statement for you. It should be written in your own words and based on your own experiences, fears, and circumstances. Just be honest.
